Although I have not been officially informed of the nature of the accusation brought against me, yet as I feel confident that I can satisfactorily explain whatever I did, I herewith apply that the Executive Council grant me an immediate inquiry and thereby give opportunity to vindicate my character.
I have &c. (signed) J. C. Eitel.
Copy of St Eitel to Acting Colonial Secretary.
Swatow, 14th December 1881.
As I have not yet received a reply to my letter of the 6th instant, in which I applied for an immediate inquiry by the Executive Council, I have unofficially heard that the Honourable F. H. Johnson, since then; forwarded to you certain papers for transmission to the Right Honorable the Secretary of State for the Colonies.
Honourable M. S. Tonnochy, Acting Colonial Secretary.
